I had not seen the nest of a crow before I came
to the commonwealth games village in New Delhi to see the apartment allotted to
me as official residence as government of India employee. It was on the
electric pole in front of the balcony. Tried taking pictures with mobile phone
but distance was a bit too much for mobile camera to give nice picture of the
crow family. It was a baby crow in the nest which was peeping out and getting
feed from both parents.
Next I
came to the flat after about two weeks when I moved in to the flat. Baby crow
was still behaving the same way. On some days it would rain and mother and
father crow would take turns to spread their wings to protect the baby from
getting drenched. This went on and I started noticing them daily. The moment I
come out in the balcony, crows would get restless and start making noise in
protest as if they see threat from me.
Time passed by. One week after the other. After 2 weeks, I
became slightly inquisitive as to why this baby is taking so long to fly. Since
I hardly knew anything about crow, I had no choice but to keep watching them.
Mother and father bringing food and approaching the nest, baby would stick out
its neck and open its beak to be fed by both........
But today morning baby was not accepting any food. Parents were
trying to feed it by dropping food in its open beaks. I could make out from the balcony
that it's no more. But parents were not ready to believe. Till afternoon they
kept repeating the long drawn process which they have been doing for more than
one month. But today the baby left. There is nothing for the parents to protect
in the rain which happened in the afternoon. They, probably reconciled to the
fact that their dear one needs no cover from them as he has taken the shelter
from Him.
